The Mapleton Tramway

The Mapleton Tramway was a 2 foot gauge light railway running from the Moreton Central Sugar Mill at Nambour and conquering the Blackall Range with steep gradients and very sharp curves. Nambour is 105k north of Queensland's Capital, Brisbane

Shay locomotives hauled not only cane but timber, livestock, freight and passengers over a line that some thought had terrain that qualified for a rack railway.

This book provides a rich source of information on how and why the line was built in very adverse conditions, both economical and geographical. Aerial photographs show the terrain features while line drawings and photographs assist to provide an excellent resource of historical information on this tramway.

Tasmania's Hagans
The North East Dundas Tramway
Articulated 'J' Class

Tasmania's Hagans tells the story of an unusual articulated
2-6-4-OT Steam locomotive which operated on the 2ft gauge (610mm) North East Dundas Tramway (NEDT) on Tasmania's rugged and picturesque west coast. A brief history, aided with archival photographs, of both the NEDT and the Hagans Locomotive Factory in Germany is followed by a detailed description of the fascinating mechanical articulation which is supported by many scale drawings of individual locomotive parts. Other scale drawings include the four classes of steam locomotives which were rostered for use on the NEDT and the 132ft radius curved trestle built precariously in front of the spectacular 240ft high Montezuma Falls.
